Web design can be tricky. When I started I knew what I wanted but was not sure how to execute it. I started looking for web templates and ideas from other websites. Back then in 2000 the design was hardly like it is today. Websites using CSS, XHTML, Flash, Swish was unheard of but there are the dynamics and you have to decide which is best for you in the beginning.

There are many web hosting companies that offer a web editor but most of those offer basically and honestly corny templates that I would not touch to save my life. However, if you are on a budget it is better to start with something. Once you realize what you want and earn money, you should be able to afford to look into purchasing a customized template, paid template or personal designer.

There are several routes you can take to get the perfect web design that you were wishing. Get a designer to design a Photoshop Web Design and output in PSD. Thereafter, you could cut the design into css or html, whichever is comfortable. This is great if you want an original design. You could purchase a template designed that are offered at Dream Templates. There are hundreds of website templates at your disposal and divided into categories which is good because you do not have to stroll through the website long to find what you want. The prices are good in fact, if you join you get unlimited access to hundreds of templates for $59.99. That is a bargain because my first template that I purchased had a $29.99 price tag and that’s ONE template without access to others!

What is offered?

Website templates

Flash templates

Powerpoint templates

Word templates

CSS templates

Logos (corporate or personal)

Website fonts

All of the above is included with that low price of $59 which was slashed down from $149. To order it is really easy and your template is delivered after the order process has completed so there is no long wait. You will then have access to all templates without problems using your login.

How is support?

I have heard that the support is very much up to par. Just fill out the appropriate form and a representative will get back to you. Like I wrote about, if you don’t have time to design a webtemplate could push you forward in the write direction. Remember any webtemplate comes with a PSD file that can be edited and changed to look original like you have designed it. Use the template as a skeleton to your next project. Good luck!

As a website owner, you would wish to have people look at your website. Search engines can bring you a lot of traffic if your website is listed on the first page with important keywords. You could optimize your site for seach engines so that they could find your site and consider it to be good enough for certain keywords. Here are a few tips:

1. Make your website useful for visitors by adding lots of information. Study other websites and try to include as many features as possible. Adding information and content will automatically add more keywords.

2. Allot a single page for each topic or concept so that you can optimize each and every page with a particular set of keywords. Many people put emphasis on just the home page. This is not a wise approach because a little attention to all pages all other pages could do wonders to bring in more visitors.

3. Save each page with a term related to the theme of the page so that the url indicates the content of the particular page.

4. Use static urls instead of dynamic urls:

Static urls are simpler and easier for search engines to find. Example of static url:

http://www.mysite.com/category/20/page.html

Dynamic urls are produced as a result of a query from user. Many websites have a form, for example, let’s say to search an item. The content retrieved by such a search/query is called dynamic content and the associated url is called a dynamic url. Example of dynamic url:

http://www.mysite.com/search.php?search_string=britney+spears&search_type=singer&Search=Search

Such pages with dynamic urls are rarely indexed by search engines. What you can do is: Do not put here any content that you would like to optimize. Instead place the content in a page with static url. Now place the link of the content(link of the page with static url) on this page (with dynamic url). The users will find this link and click on it to get the content. In this way search engines will find it as it’s url is static and the users can search as well.

5. Issues with Flash, Frames, and Ajax.

Flash

Search engines can’t find the content inside flash applications. Moreover Flash takes time to load which could be disliked by users.

Frames

Frames with scroll bars do not look nice. Framed sites without scroll bars still look better. Normally SEs cannot spider content inside frames. If you want search engines to crawl inside the frames, use the ‘noframes’ tags. Refer this for help

Ajax

One of the uses of Ajax is that it changes the content of a page or a part of it without reloading the page. For this it uses the ‘onclick’ event. The irony is that users like it while search engines do not. The pages which your Ajax will retrieve after the ‘onclick’ event will not be spidered by SEs. What you can do is: Use it only for those pages which you think does not need optimization.

6. Test your site with multiple browsers and get a feel of how it looks in Microsoft IE, Mozilla Firefox, Opera,Netscape, etc.

7. Avoid pop-ups and loud sound as users find it ‘distracting’.

8. Use keywords in meta tags. You must note that specifying the title and description in the meta tags is very important. Use your keywords in the title and in the description. Make the desciption interesting with relevant information about what your site offers. Sometimes only this could be enough to enhance your rankings in SEs.

With the advent of the internet, websites have become one of the most popular means for individuals and organizations to help them reach their customers.

Websites are typically made using a coded language known as HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) and it is this language that allows for the basic structure of a website. This includes its headings and even the type of font that is used in a paragraph. Since the time that HTML was used for website building, more ways have been developed to make website development faster and easier. What separates one website from another is design.

When designing a website, one must consider the following key elements: the purpose of the site, the possible audience, content structure, and the design compatibility.

Firstly, it is really important to know why a website is needed. There should be a statement that says what the site is used for and what visitors can get from it. This will help the designer to plan a proper outline of how the website can be broken down and modified over time should the need arise. Thus, keeping a long term objective is the best plan.

In terms of audience, one should keep in mind the people who will be visiting the website. Basically, what should be considered is the target market. People will be viewing the site for different reasons and a designer should know what those reasons are and if they are attractive enough to have them return to the site often.

Content is probably the most time-consuming section of the website. A lot of planning is required because this will be the most dynamic part of the site. This means that the information will keep changing every now and then. This is especially true if the website deals with articles changing every day like newspaper websites. Content may also mean the way a product is advertised or presented to the user. The more attractive the graphics are and the catchier the copy is, the more it will help get more customers to a website. Copy is the text content that is included on the website.

Another tricky part about web design is making it compatible for all kinds of web browsers. A web browser is what a person will use to access the website. Some websites are not displayed exactly the same way across different browsers. So a designer must keep in mind that the programming is still essential in realizing the design. It is tricky but not very difficult since not only a lot of tweaking of measurements will be made to adjust the website dimensions.

Websites have changed the way businesses are run. People actually purchase items online now and this is why having a good-looking website is essential. A professional-looking website will ensure more transactions and therefore lead to more sales and higher profitability.
